Great Foods for the Liver

The liver is one of the most important organs in our bodies with many essential functions. For instance, it filters, detoxifies chemicals, and metabolizes drugs, as well as makes important proteins (for blood clotting and other functions).

Here are some foods/drinks that are great for the liver:

  • Water

Water is amazing for the liver and the health in general. It helps flush out toxins as well as hydrates the body.

Made out of oat grains, oatmeal is great to start the day with. It’s rich in fibers and great for the overall health.

  • Coffee

Studies have shown that drinking coffee may protect the liver from disease .

Both black tea and green tea have shown that they may have benefits, and they may improve enzyme and fat levels in the liver.  However, a  doctor should be consulted before taking green tea supplements, especially by those who have liver problems.

  • Blueberries and Cranberries

Berries are high in antioxidants, which may help protect the liver from damage.

They are a good sources of vitamin E which may help protect against fatty liver disease.

  • Cruciferous vegetables (e.g. Brussels sprouts and broccoli)

Some studies have indicated that cruciferous vegetables increase levels of detoxification enzymes and protect the liver from damage.
